What happens when you do an internet search for “cheap
moving boxes”? You get about a million
hits, that’s what. Apparently people are
really interested in this topic, and I don’t blame them. Not only are regular people interested, but
businesses are as well. Consumers want
to find cheap moving boxes, and retailers want to provide cheap moving
boxes. The result is a super confusing
mash-up all over the computer screen.
With key phrases like “manage your moving costs” and “seventy-percent
off moving supplies”, not to mention the related searches off to the right
boasting “cheap moving boxes [in your zip code]” and “affordable moving labor”,
it’s hard to know where to look.
Most of the time, when I do an internet search, I start at
the first link. When looking for
something that has “cheap” in the description, I do not do this. This is because the companies who can afford
to have their link at the very top are usually the most expensive. For example, an internet search for cheapmoving boxes will have Lowes, UHaul, Amazon, and Office Depot at the very
top. And that’s just naming a few. Maybe at the bottom of the page, or the next
page over, you will start to see the online companies.
The first rule is to never consider the big name
companies. [At least not when you are
looking for something cheap.] The
companies I just named have their packaging and shipping supplies way
overpriced compared to the online retailers that follow them up. But don’t just skim right over the first
couple pages and assume there is nothing good to be found until further in!
Tucked in between links for ULINE’s moving boxes and
supplies and Amazon’s medium moving boxes are the blog posts written by other
Joes and Janes who can tell you some great places to get cheap moving boxes
(for real), or even X number of places you can get free moving boxes. These
posts might not be filled with monumental information (after all, there is no
suggestion for finding a genie and wishing for it), but there is a good chance
they might suggest something that is so obvious and attainable that we somehow
don’t think on our own. Like there are
actually websites that sell used moving supplies. Or there are more websites than just Craiglist
out there where people are selling their stuff, or even trying to just plain
old give it away.
